NESBA relies on a team of people & offers countless ways to participate

At 246 members, NESBA is the ASBA’s largest chapter.  Our robust on-line and in-person programming relies on a team of people and offers countless ways to participate.

As a volunteer, you have the chance to use your skills to make meaningful contributions as well as develop connections and friendships with other members. Below are some of the ways to get involved - let us know your interest on the form below!

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors provides leadership to and manages the affairs of NESBA.  Volunteer board members meet quarterly to review reports, approve programming plans and expenditures, and plan for the future.  Board members may have Board-specific responsibilities (such as Treasurer or Secretary) and may also lead programming teams which depend heavily on participation from non-Board member volunteers.

  • The Board meets 4x/year via zoom, Board terms are 2 years.

  • Board terms typically start in September but members may join throughout the year.

  • Quarterly Board meetings are open to all members; the zoom link is emailed to all members in advance of the meeting.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions are vital to us as artists and to our goal of public education. We currently plan for two exhibits / year, one at the MassHort Fall Flower Show and a second at a venue in New England. Current exhibit team needs include:

  • Shipping coordinator - to receive and return artworks submitted to a NESBA show.

  • Fall Flower Show support: NESBA participates in the MassHort September Flower Show, which needs volunteers for hanging and take down, as well as artists to demonstrate during the 2-day show.

Workshops, the Retreat and other events

The annual retreat on Cape Cod is our centerpiece in-person workshop event. We also plan one Zoom workshop per year. The type of support needed ranges from planning, to on-site set-up, to on-line management of workshop registration (see below).  Other events include the MassHort Festival of Trees and holiday party which require various types of support.

Blog

The blog section of the website is in the public domain and is a great way to both educate both members and the public about a topic as well as enhance the visibility of the contributing artist. Our blog editor works with contibutors to hone their blog content and deliver it to the website update team.

Communications/Media/Tech/ “Behind the Scenes”

Whether in-person or on-line, all of our programming is supported by a communications team that works behind the scenes to make programs available to members. We welcome new members to work in collaboration with an established team that provides training and support. Our goals are to to assure bench strength (so time commitments remain manageable) and possibly expand into areas such as: resuming digital exhibits, creating opportunities for member interaction on-line, and evaluating social media presence

The current jobs involve managing zoom meetings, updating the website, [and publishing the newsletter?).

  • Zoom Roles: For Beyond the Brush, the zoom host opens the meeting, admits participants and manages the host controls to assure a good session for live participants and a high quality recording.

  • Website Updates: Our Squarespace website platform is user-friendly. Updates involve cutting and pasting content provided by the blog, exhibit and workshop teams. We need people to both interact with the website and serve as content editors working with the event and exhibit teams (see above).

  • Website Review: The website is functioning well but it is probably time to review navigation to assure it is user friendly

Prior experience is alway welcome, but If you join us, you will find: training and support, remote work that is fun, and manageable time commitments.
