Exhibitions are an important way for NESBA to fulfill its purpose of educating the public about botanical art and New England plant diversity. The following is a general guide with links to more detailed tools and resources to assist the Exhibit Manager in the preparation of an exhibition.
DEFINITION: A NESBA exhibition is one that is initiated, curated, coordinated or implemented by one or more members of NESBA in the name of NESBA. Holding an exhibit in the name of NESBA involves, both NESBA and the venue sign-off on signage, publicity, and other outreach materials to make certain each organization is properly represented and credited. Ideally the venue creates a title panel for the exhibition based on text and images supplied by the NESBA Exhibit Manager. Sponsors must be noted on the panel when allowed, and a panel describing NESBA is highly desirable. [Does this sufficiently explain what ‘in the name of NESBA means? What are our obligations to credit ASBA?]
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: NESBA members in good standing are eligible to participate.
EXHIBITION SCOPE: Exhibitions can be organized to focus on a particular type of botanical art, or a theme, and can provide educational opportunities through gallery talks, panel discussions, and workshops. Exhibitions may chapter-wide or group shows as outlined below:
· Chapter Exhibitions These are inclusive shows, calling for submissions from all NESBA members. Most NESBA exhibitions are open to all qualifying members, although organizers can choose to jury the exhibition. The ASBA has written Exhibition Guidelines for Jury Procedures can be found [here provide link] NOTE create separate document on Jury Procedures.
· Group Exhibitions: These involve a specific group of NESBA members which may involve artists from a given area or drawing group, or showcase a specific style of botanical art (e.g. pen and ink). Group exhibitions may seek varying levels of involvement from NESBA such as publicity, calls for entry etc. Small group shows may also be organized independently of NESBA.
